Since 9.11 our world has changed and continues to do so. We are concerned about world peace, for current and future generations. Through this touching story of peace and the innocence of children, we'd like to send a message of hibakusha (radiated people) to the world, inspiring unity for our future. Sadako's Story represents the true voice of hibakusha, the regret of our own history, hope and light.
"Peace must always be pursued and protected." - Pope John Paul II, Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, 1981
Aurora Leigh – love and revolution, adapted from Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s novel and directed by Dr. Temi Rose, presented at Ensemble Studio Theatre.
Cast: Bianca Aabel, Brian Allard, Greg Anderson, Katherine Diamond*, Stephanye Dussud*, Lora Lee Ecobelli*, Rebecca Friedman, Matthew Hammond, Dawn Harvey*, Christine Rebecca Herzog*, Lucy McMichael*, Guthrie Nutter*, Alexandria Wailes*, Garrett Zuercher* in a unique production featuring speaking and signing (ASL) casts simultaneously on-stage, which made for a moving intricately woven passion.
Aurora Leigh is the name of the main character of the novel, a poet and a woman who must go through creative struggles and emotional entanglements all the while making brave choices and giving voice to the great questions of the Victoria Age: art, love, God, poverty, and the ever-elusive, woman question:
Is it possible
to be both a woman and also write great literature? Can a woman who writes as
well as the greatest men, still find love? Elizabeth Barrett Browning says YES!
to both in her phenomenal novel in verse, published for the first time in 1856,
Aurora Leigh.
